Materials: number cards 0–10 (four decks for one game)
Idea of the game: The basic idea is similar to the card game Happy Families, but now the goal is to collect pairs of numbers that add up to ten. Players collect these pairs from the cards in their hand and by asking cards from other players.
A) Ten pairs
The game is for 2–4 players. Shuffle the cards. Deal five cards to each player. The remaining cards form the draw pile, the “draw stack”. The goal of the game is to find pairs of numbers in your hand that add up to ten (for example 4 and 6).
At the beginning of the game, each player checks whether they already have any ten pairs in their hand. The player places all the pairs they find in front of them on the table (preferably in two piles so that the newest pair is always visible).
After this, one player A starts the actual game. They ask the player on their left, player B, for a number that would form a ten pair with one of the numbers in their own hand. For example, if player A has cards 1 and 8, they can ask player B: “Do you have a nine?” or “Do you have a two?” A player may ask for only one number per turn.
If player B has the requested number, they give that card to player A, who then places the ten pair on the table in front of them. If player B does not have the requested number, they say: “Go to the draw stack.” Player A then draws one card from the draw pile. If the drawn card forms a ten pair with a card in their hand, they place the pair on the table.
The turn then passes to the next player. Player B now asks a number from the player on their left.
If a player runs out of cards, they draw five new cards from the draw pile.
The game ends when the draw pile is empty. After this, players count how many ten pairs they have collected. The winner is the one with the most pairs.
